THEATER COMPANY

Mission Statement

Masterworks Theater Company's mission is to present new work, reimagined classics, and educational theater in live theatrical performances, illuminating and interrogating what constitutes a "masterwork".

The Company's purpose is to present theatrical productions and engage in educational activities that strive to ignite the next generation of theatergoers, and build an intergenerational audience community.

When we set out to do this, our mission was simple: IGNITE THE NEXT GENERATION OF AUDIENCES.

As believers that these stories, the theatrical and literary heavyweights, the Masterworks, were still relevant, we tasked ourselves to create exciting productions for a youth audience. Charging forward, we premiered our first season Off-Broadway at the 47th Street Theater, opening with The Glass Menagerie in May 2015 and A Midsummer Night's Dream in June. It wasn’t long before we found that audiences of all ages were discovering, and rediscovering, this work along with us.

With a garnering a rave review in The New York Times and a bevy of company partners and artistic minds in tow, we continue to build meaningful relationships with artists, co-producers, and creative partners while uncovering new opportunities to fulfill our mission and bring great theater to new generations of audiences.

The Science Theater Company is the educational branch of our company, producing original works including That Physics Show, That Chemistry Show, That Math Show, and That Tap Dance Show. Our aim is to bring together the worlds of science and theater to engage multigenerational audiences in an interactive, engaging, and enlightening live performance. We collaborate with experts in their field, the likes of Art Benjamin and Warren Curtis, and bring our theatrical expertise to create shows that offer equal entertainment and educational value.

Moving forward, we are constantly seeking opportunities for new play development, maximizing the potential of the Theater 555 space to do what Off-Broadway does best: create theater that pushes boundaries, asks meaningful questions, and builds community between artists and audiences.
